Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) (http://socan.info) is organizing a Rogue Basin Climate Summit scheduled for October 13 and 14 at Inn at the Commons in Medford (http://socanclimatesummit.info).
Our goal is to promote awareness about Basin-wide climate trends and problems they are causing, and then consider action that is being, and can be undertaken, to address these problems.
The keynote speakers are Dr. Phil Mote, Director of OSU’s Oregon Climate Change Research Institute, Mary Wood J.D. from UO School of Law, a proponent of Our Children’s Trust, and Kitty Piercy, Mayor of Eugene.
More than 25 other regional professionals will be joining these individuals as we explore both current regional climate trends and consequences, as well as successful actions being undertaken to address the problems.
The conference will close with a series of concurrent Break-Out sessions during which attendees will join their selected group to consider what actions might be taken in the region to initiate further progress towards preparing to overcome problems being caused by, or reduce our contribution to, the trends.
Our target audience for the event includes local representatives, local department staffs, community leaders, local media, the interested general public, and students.
